At Arvada Optometric Center, our optometrist Dr. Shawn Cottrell invites you to celebrate children's eye health and safety with back to school eye exams for students of all ages. Our optometry child care in Arvada will ensure your child begins the new academic year on the right foot. In addition to screening for common eye conditions and diseases, we will ensure your child can see clearly and will be able to fully participate in all that school has to offer academically, socially, and in extracurricular activities.
Many eye conditions common in childhood can be corrected or completely reversed if diagnosed and treated before the condition has progressed too far. For this reason, the American Optometric Association recommends infants have an eye exam during their first year to evaluate their development and progress. Children should have another eye exam by the age of three and again before entering school. Once school-aged, children should have a comprehensive eye exam at least once per year to ensure the early detection of any developing eye conditions such as:
Although not all of these conditions are treatable, it is good to be aware of the ones which are not. For example, if your child is diagnosed with color blindness, knowing will help them develop and participate in school more easily.
If you have a child who is preparing for the start of a new school year or has just started, we encourage you to schedule his or her appointment for a comprehensive eye exam with our Arvada child care services.
